Google Plus posts of week

Someone actually asked me the other day if I got bored blogging and speaking about Google Plus all the time. Instead of going into a 20 minute rant about the benefits of Google Plus, I took a minute to think about that.

While each online platform has its complexities, I don’t think I could be as passionate nor as patient with any other.

To get a handle on Google Plus is to be familiar with copywriting, SEO, broadcasting, social networking, semantic search, content marketing and community managing.

So each day when I top up my Spundge Google Plus notebook, I learn something new.

Here are my top five picks this week:

Google Plus Custom URLS

Why you should read:

He writes from the viewpoint of someone not all that active on Google Plus. (He does have a personal and brand page). He also includes tips to for improving any SEO juice Google Plus may give you through social signals. Yes, he cites the controversial Moz article: 2013 Moz Search Engine Ranking Factor

An interesting thing happened this morning when I opened my email. Both my company and personal Google Plus pages were approved for a custom Google Plus URL. Previously, Blueprint Effects’ company Google Plus URL looked like this: https://plus.google.com/115840249624971392978, and I received the invitations as per Google’s rolling out of this feature across a broader range of users.

Google Helpouts

Why you should read:

If you’re interested in sharing your expertise online (free or for a few bucks) or seeking help, Alex Wilhelm in this TechCrunch article,  gives us the rundown on this new Google service that uses Hangout technology to seek expert services over video chat.

Google’s fusion of Google+ Hangouts, Google Wallet, and its identity tools is now live. A ‘Helpout’ is a Hangout-like video chat, but instead of speaking with a friend, you are connected to a purported expert in whatever it is that you need help with. The tagline that Google has come up with for Helpouts is “real help from real people in real time.”. …
